I made these breadsticks the other day to go with my spaghetti. They are so fantastic…soft, garlicky bits of fantastic-ness! They seriously taste like Olive Garden breadsticks, they’re that good! And they’re easy. You must make them for your next Italian dinner.
Start by mixing together yeast, sugar and warm water in a bowl.
Allow this to proof for about 10 minutes.
Then add in some vegetable oil, egg, flour, sugar and water.
Beat until smooth. Stir in additional flour until a soft dough forms.
Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth, 6-8 minutes.
Place into greased bowl, turning once to coat. Allow to rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
Divide into 18 pieces and shape into breadsticks. Allow to rise on baking sheet for 20-25 minutes. Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.
While the bread is baking, make the butter topping. Mix together softened butter, garlic salt, parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
After removing bread from the oven, brush the butter mixture on top of the warm bread. Top with more parmesan and garlic as needed.
