Homemade Taco Seasoning

This homemade taco seasoning is so much better than the store-bought packets. The best part is you can customize it however you want, don’t like it so spicy, cut down on the red pepper. Like a little more heat, up the pepper. This recipe will go with a pound of ground beef. I usually make a double or triple batch, and just store it with my other spices.

Homemade Taco Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp sea salt (not the same as table salt)
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Just stir the seasonings together and then use them as you would one of the packets….

Brown 1 pound ground beef. Drain and return to skillet. Sprinkle seasonings on. Add about 3/4 c. of water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.

I made this then realized that I didn’t have any tortillas. So I just spread it on some tortilla chips (left over from my chicken and chips), added some salsa and sour cream. Served with a crisp green salad, its a yummy meal.

  3. I remember seeing this a while back and I think I just filed it in the back of my brain, thinking, “I buy the packaged stuff, I won’t need it.” Well, tonight I needed this recipe! I had almost all the ingredients (no red pepper or oregano), but it turned out REALLY yummy, but a bit on the spicy side for me. I will definitely file this in my recipe box and use it again and not the packaged stuff anymore!!!
