Wall Clock

I recently redid my bedroom. I was looking for something for the wall above the entertainment center. I really couldn’t find anything that just called my name. So I decided to make something myself. Since I coudn’t decide between a picture and a clock, I decided to combine the two. Here’s what I did…

I found some cheap wooden frames at Wal-Mart (a bonus, the lighter and darker shades perfectly matched the other wood tones in the room, and worked to blend everything together). I bought five 4 x6 frames and eight 2×3 frames. I used the larger frames for the 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and 12:00 markers. The fifth frame was used to mount the actual clock parts. Those I found at Michaels. I cut a piece of white poster board the size of the frame, punched a whole in the center and put the workings of the clock behind it. The hands of the clock go it front. This hides the mechanical parts. This is what I used for the clock.

I laid out the clock on the floor first to get a layout I liked. Then I measured how big the clock was, from the top of the 12:00 to the top of the clock frame, and from there to the top of the 6:00.

I measured how far I wanted the top of the clock to be from the ceiling and put my first nail there. Then it was just a matter of measuring everything out. From the 12:00 nail, I used the measurement from the layout and placed the nail for the clock, and then for the 6:00. I used my laser level to make sure they were all in line.

Then I used my laser level to make a straight line with the nail for the clock parts. This I used to line up the 3:00 and 9:00 frames.

From there it was just a matter of working from the top down to fill in the rest of the hours.

Ta-da… pictures and a clock in one.

The best part is it’s super easy to change out the pictures in the frames. What better way to display pictures from your lastest vacation, or display old Christmas pictures for a unique holiday decoration.

  1. That is incredibly creative! I totally love it. I’m still in the organizing stage, I can’t wait to get to the decorating stage!

  2. Just saw this idea (I’m usually checking out the recipes!) and it’s such a great decoration! I think I’m going to have to use it when we move again! Thanks!
